I am an out of network provider only. As an out-of-network provider in NH,MA and VT I will gladly provide an invoice for you to send to your insurance company for possible full or partial reimbursement. That means you are responsible for the full fee at the time of our appointment, and, depending on your plan, a certain percentage may be paid to you by your insurance company. I have additionally partnered with an app, Reimbursify, that I recommend to clients with PPO insurance plans to assist them with filing claims. I am more than happy to discuss this solution with you during our consultation call.
Contact your insurance company directly to find out if you have out of network benefits; not all plans have this option. Below are some questions to ask your insurance provider when you call the number on the back of your insurance card:
Do I have out-of-network mental health insurance benefits? (Some companies call these behavioral health benefits.)
What is my deductible and has it been met?
How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?
What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
Is approval required from my primary care physician?
What is the address to send my "super bill" or invoice in order to be reimbursed?

There are a few reasons I don’t accept insurance. While using insurance is an option that many understandably utilize, there are important limitations to consider when using insurance to pay for therapy. Increasingly, insurance companies are choosing to: prioritize brief types of therapy, stop covering sessions after an arbitrary number of sessions has occurred, or stop covering sessions after a certain amount of time has passed. (Which doesn’t exactly line up with the time that is actually needed) For couples sessions, insurance requires one member of the couple to be the identified client to which the work is geared towards. As a couples therapist this goes against my view of couples where both members are part of the system and each has their own role in the distress and health of the relationship.
I am highly intentional with the number of clients I take on in my practice, which is why I only work with folks who are ready to prioritize our work together. My clients have their set appointment times that are reserved for them on a weekly basis. Being intentional with my time also means that I reserve time for further training, participating in my consult groups, and ensuring that I engage in community care and self-care so I don’t burn out in this work, which all translate to a higher quality clinical care for you.
As a therapist, it’s important for me to be able to cultivate relationships with my clients without an insurance company’s demands looming over us, like requiring you to have a mental health diagnosis that can potentially follow you for years, or limiting the number of sessions they choose to cover. I set up my practice so that I can work with you.

I’m going to be honest about this upfront: I am strict about my cancellation policy!
My clients have a 48 business hour cancellation and rescheduling policy. For example, if a client’s weekly appointment time is at 1 p.m. on Wednesdays, they must let me know that they need to cancel or reschedule by 1 p.m. on Monday.
Clients who do not give me 48 business hours notice, or those who no-show their appointments, will be charged my full fee.

A “Good Faith Estimate” explains how much your medical and mental health care will cost. You can ask for this before you schedule a session.
Under the law, health care provides need to give patients who don’t have insurance, or who are not using insurance, an estimate of the expected charges for medical service, including psychotherapy services. Please inform me if you do not have insurance or don’t plan to use insurance, and you will be provided with a Good Faith Estimate.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

Everyone’s circumstances are unique and the length of time you will be engaged in therapy depends on your goals, your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors and concerns that are driving you to seek therapy in the first place. We will work together to determine length of treatment and throughout our work together, evaluate where you are with your goals and reassess as needed.
